How about adding the title to a copy of the banner itself, in custom font?
Oh, and for default avatar... not the best knight look to be had, but it's a start.

Will think about the banner, we are still exploring.
I want to use my most up-to-date one eventually, but it's bigger than 1MB right now, so needs placing with to reduce in size.
In terms of the avatar, I think having a utilitarian but by no means attractive default one, encourages members to find their own. I wanted something 'Knightly' and medieval in flavour. I've posted two more Avatar options from the 'Chivalry game, which offer easy alternatives for members. We can add more later but I think beyond the basics and to keep site limits down, we should not go overboard in offering too many options here. That's also part of the reason for keeping the site utilitarian in look and feel.
